Malibu 2004 - 2015

I worked for Destin RV for four years before leaving Florida. During my time in Destin, I also worked as a wrecker driver, picking up car wrecks. However, my favorite job was working for Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club. There, I had the opportunity to cut golf greens, aprons, and fairways, and also learn how to golf. It was truly a fantastic job!

One night, while working at Legendary, I allowed Britney Jean Spears to pass through the gate. During this time, I noticed a job opening at the Malibu Beach RV park in Malibu. I applied for the job and requested Cheryl to make a call on our behalf. Fortunately, we were able to secure the job and relocated to the area as our son and grandchildren were stationed at Port Hueneme Naval Base.

We arrived in Malibu on August 22, 2004, and started working as work camp night hosts. However, within 90 days, we were promoted to property managers and remained in that role for 11 years. I have to admit, it was not. I applied for a job and had Cheryl make a call on our behalf, and we were able to secure the job. We moved to the area because our son and grandchildren were stationed at Port Hueneme Naval Base.

We arrived in Malibu on August 22, 2004, and started working as work camp night hosts. However, within 90 days, we were promoted to property managers and remained in that role for 11 years. I have to admit, it was not an easy job!

We had to deal with people camping, the hundreds of employees we hired and fired in 11 years, movie stars, homeless people, film companies, criminals from pedophiles, kidnappers, Illegal immigrants, and identity thieves to the ten most wanted.

We housed many movie stars as they would stay at the park while making movies and TV shows. The list is very long! Cheryl and I have met and partied with so many movie stars I can't remember them all.

We became friends with Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves as they lived at the park for two years with many of the cast while filming the movie Surfer Dude.

We went to the movie Premiere and the party after the movie's first showing. What a blast!

We are in the credits of the movie. So cool!

At the beginning of 2015, we both had bodyguards as we dealt with many crazy people, including the Paparazzi! Daily.

Cheryl had already had a subarachnoid hemorrhage and was in intensive care for 26 days.

Approximately 25% of patients die within 24 hours, with or without medical attention. Hospitalized patients have an average mortality rate of 40% in the first month. About half of affected individuals die in the first six months. Rebleeding, a significant complication, carries a mortality rate of 51-80%.

Cheryl is still living only by the grace of God.

Then, my best friend ever, Mickey Sills, died at 55 from cancer. He was the head designer for True Religion and is best known as the founder of P.J. Salvage, a contemporary line of loungewear and sleepwear he later sold to Peter Burke in 1997.

We were both Airstream owners and riding buddies on our motorcycles. We smoked together, partied together, and became the best of friends; I cried hard when he died and think of him daily. Mickey is about the only reason we would go back to Malibu, but with him gone now, I don't see us returning anytime soon. R.I.P. Mickey, you will always be remembered.

Then Grant Adamson, Patriarch of Malibu's Founding Family, Dies in Hot Air Balloon Accident. He was our Boss and a Good friend.

After his death, his sister Leslie took over, and things were never the same as she did not have the same relaxed, calm attitude that Grant had, so we Quit on April 1, 2015.

Many Malibu story producers wanted to do a TV series on us, but Grant did not think it was a good idea.

It was a sad day, but it was time to move on; after Cheryl's subarachnoid hemorrhage, I asked her what she wanted to do, and she said I wanted to live on the beach, so we purchased a spot in Cameron, Louisiana, on Peveto Beach.
